Carbopol 940 powder, also names Carbomer 940 is a polyvinyl carboxy polymer. Carbopol 940 Cosmetic Grade is used as viscosity enhancer, gelling agent or suspension agent, and can be used to create gel products, such as Hand Sanitizer Gels.
The typical use level of Cosmetic Grade Carbopol 940 is 0.2%-1% depending on the type of formulation. Cosmetic Grade Carbopol must be thoroughly mixed and hydrated. Increasing the pH to >6.0, gives a gel structure. Neutralization can be carried out with inorganic bases such as NaOH or KOH or triethanolamine (TEA).
